Murphys is located in Calaveras County in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park about 150 miles east of San Francisco. From the west, take State Highway 4 east from Angels Camp approximately 12 miles to the town of Murphys, and turn left at the "Main Street" exit. The Murphys Historic Hotel is located in the center of town, on the west side of the street. It's a landmark - you can't miss it!
Access from the east is via Highway 4 through the towns of Markleville and Bear Valley, in Alpine County. It is approximately two hours drive from Markleville, and 45 minutes west of Bear Valley. Highway 4 between Markleville and Bear Valley is CLOSED during the winter months due to snow; check with the
California Department of Transportation for current road conditions: (800) 427-ROAD (7623).
